With slave populations in the colonies increasing naturally, there was less of a need for the dangerous and expensive slave trade engaged across the ocean. This lead to a law in 1807 banning the act, It still continued illegally for a few years, and slavery continued on as it had, but relying on slave reproduction instead of trade. Key concept 4.2
