Since the consensus for the Biblical dates of the exodus and the conquest of Canaan is wrong, most people don't make the connection between the Israelite conquest and this destruction of Jericho. There is great archaeological evidence for a short siege of Jericho in which the walls fell down and the city was burned. The Canaanites had been living in the Levant with walled cities for quite some time. This date is not meant to be an exact date, but archaeologists contend that some destruction of Jericho happened somewhere around this time.
