This was a long time coming as political tensions were cooking for decades, mostly due to its impoverished state. Soon, revolutions led to a civil war within the country, that ended a few years later. This revolution paved the way for communism and the Soviet Union. The significance to WWI was it influenced Russia to leave the war a few months later.
