The British decided to Tax the colonizers in order to try and get of debt from William Pitt . After many failed attempts from the British ,the settlers grew tired and renounced the British . They organized themselves broke free of the British calling themselves Americans. 80 % percent of the population went american and were called patriots , and the 20 % that remained were the loyalist . America was the first to have democracy.
