With the Civil War, cotton gin had reduced the number of workers needed to remove the seeds from the fiber, it actually increased the number of enslaved people the plantation owners needed.
The cultivation of cotton became so profitable that plantation owners constantly needed more land and labor from slaves to meet the growing demand for fiber. And to help even more he helped with speed and without worrying about needing a lot of wages, since inventions did twice as much work.
