7 mai 1915 - The Sinking of the Lusitania
Description:
After Germany's strong willed declaration of unrestricted sub warfare, it was only a matter of time till tragedy struck. Marked as a passenger ship, the Lusitania wasn't known to Germans to have a massive supply of war munitions being transported for British and French reinforcements. A German U-boat decided the passenger ship should no longer have the right to float, and decided to sink it when it came into restricted waters. Among 1,201 casualties, there were 128 Americans. This attack was of huge significance due to the 128 American deaths. Following these deaths, Woodrow Wilson sent a strong message to Germany, persuading them to halt attacks on merchant ships, and eventually suspend U-boat warfare altogether.
