5 oct. 1789 - Women's March on Versailles

Description:

On October 5th, an angry mob of over 7,000 working women marched in the rain from Paris to Versailles. They were armed with pitchforks, pikes and muskets and chanted for bread. The women were focused on Marie Antoinette as she responded to the starvation crisis with "let them eat cake". The next day, Louis and Marie became prisoners of the Third Estate. The Women's march was of great significance as it transformed the role of women in revolution and what political gains they could expect for themselves.
