27 juill. 1830 - French Revolution of 1830 (Coup D’etat)

Description:

The Congress of Vienna returned Louis XVIII to the throne. Now that Louis had his power back, he issued a constitution called the Charter of French Liberties, which created a two-house legislature and gave some freedoms to the press. Even after this, many viewed Louis’s actions unfavorably. Unroyalists wanted to restore the old regime, those on the left wanted a republic like France had in the 1790s, and those who were poor just wanted decent pay and affordable bread. Louis died in 1824, and his brother Charles X, took the throne. Charles, and absolutist, revoked the democratic rights that Louis had granted. The people rebelled against Charles and ultimately scared him off to England. Once Charles had been overthrown, a constitutional monarchy was established and Louis Philippe, Charles’s cousin, was named king. Louis Philippe was referred to as the “citizen king” because he owed his power to the citizens. He had a very good relationship with the Bourgeoisie, which led them prospering under Louis Philippe's rule. The middle and upper class prospered, but it was all at the expense of the working class. This would cause yet another coup in the years to come.
