Having remained at the Portcullis for months, researching their conditions and trying to find cures, Reed, Sue, Ben, and Monica can find no solace or solution in their situation. Reed and William Foster continue to conduct experiments, now with advanced robots designed by Reed called HERBIEs. They believe that the team was accidently exposed to exotic particles previously undocumented in science within parallel dimensions associated with our universe, which causes Reed to start developing a new theory of the universe based on the Kaluza–Klein theory and Edward Witten's work on supergravity. Their changes stable, they are eventually cleared for limited release. Being Air Force, Grimm and Rambeau are both called upon to join the Avengers, which they both accept. Reed and Sue return to the Future Foundation, with William Foster joining them to continue research.
