- Successful in the Second Battle of Bull Run.
- Led troops to Antietam Creek to encourage foreign intervention and seduce the wavering Border States from the Union.
- Led various other victories
- Continued to lose during the Wilderness Campaign and was cornered at Appomattox Courthouse on April 1865 where he surrendered
