Description:

He captured Fort Henry and Fort Donelson in February 1862. This helped secure Kentucky more to the Union and help the Union strategically too. He also tried winning the Battle of Shiloh but failed to beat the Confederates. He also led troops in the Battle of Vicksburg which he successfully took control of. This allowed the reopening of the Mississippi and reopening trade routes that had been cut off to the North. Led the Union in the Wilderness Campaign and pressured the South to make peace negotiations. He then cornered General Lee at Appomattox Courthouse where he surrendered ending the war.
