Apr. 30, 1917, from Weizmann, Rothschild, and Joseph Cowen: "Support from your Government would be invaluable. Information confidential. Please telegraph your views with result of conversations and what action you are taking" (Yale University, New Haven, Conn., William Wiseman Papers). The Zionists received the cable the same day, and de Haas cabled back to Weizmann: "With- hold direct answer until interview with Balfour. In meantime we wish to assure you and him we will stand solidly with you in every respect" (Wiseman Papers).
