A hundred Variations on Passacagli by Frescobaldi. It offers astonishing variety, with frequent and surprising forays into contrasting rhythms and tempos and startling harmonic efects. Its title is mischievously misleading, for the piece does not contain one hundred variations, noir are they all examples of a passacaglia-- they contain ciaccona as well.
