- Association des Dames de Charite (1827)
- Congregation of the Sisters of Providence (1843)

In Quebec, charity work is mainly run by
- French-speaking women who participate by becoming a nun & participating in organizations with a religious angle
- English-speaking middle class or wealthy women

Note that women did not have any personal power & were dependent on men
