Constantinople falls to the Islamic Turks.Christians viewed this as liberation from oppressive emperors (contra to the western world, the church submitted to the emperor).
ottomans gave church freedom for a time.
Russia saw this as God's judgment. Called Moscow the third Rome which was supposed to uphold orthodoxy.
