1 janv. 796 - Borobudur Temple
Description:
Is modeled after mandalas, is essentially a 3d mandala. The temple itself was mainly made for circumambulation. As one slowly moves up the temple they reach higher levels or higher states of consciousness. The sculptures seen as they circumambulate show significant moments in the Buddha’s life such as, his past lives, his teachings, and stories from important Buddhist scriptures. At the top there are various stupas with Buddhas in them and as you reach the very top a gigantic stupa is reached, this stupa symbolizes enlightenment. The Borobudur also incorporates the idea of darkness to light because as you go up along the path of the sun the light shining down on is in tandem with the spiritual enlightenment received. The top also incorporates the main Buddhist idea of formlessness. Is made out of volcanic stone, was made in Central Java, Indonesia.
