28 mai 1830 - Indian removal act signed

Description:

The Indian removal act was constructed and signed by Andrew Jackson during his presidency in 1830. White settlers in the south called for this as they wanted the Indian land to grow cotton on. This law authorized the government to negotiate with southern Indian tribes about their removal to territories given to them by the federal government. Indians were forced to leave their homelands and walk thousands of miles to their new designated Indian territory which was across the Mississippi river. This journey was later known as the trail of tears.
