1 janv. 1340 av. J.-C. - Suppiluliumas

Description:

(1344–1322) managed to restore Hittite power around 1340 and established what is
known as the Hittite new kingdom or empire. He subjected powerful cities in Syria
and Asia Minor and settled accounts with his neighbours, the Hurrians in Mitanni,
where he installed a puppet on the throne and made it a vassal state. The Hittites’
custom was to conclude peace treaties with the kings they defeated, who were usually allowed to remain on their thrones (what are known as ‘vassal rulers’ or ‘client-kings’).
Large numbers of such treaties have been recovered in excavations in the Hittite
capital.
