Darius divided Persia into various provinces or satrapies. Every satrapy has a military governor called satrap. Each satrap paid a yearly tribute to Darius. The empire flourished during Darius’s time. To make trade more vibrant, he implemented the use of money and standardized weights and measures. He also built imperial highways. Darius instituted a good taxation policy, built a canal between the Red Sea and the Nile River, and demanded strict implementation of the laws of Medes and Persians.
