2 mars 1821 - Missouri Compromise
Description:
Tension rose between pro slavery and anti-slavery settlers in the U.S. Congress and across the country. This tension reached it's breaking point after Missouri requested for entry to the Union as a slave state. This would cause an upset in the balance between slave states and free states. Congress made a two-part compromise and gave Missouri permission but Maine was admitted as a free state. This also passed an amendment that that drew an imaginary line across the (former) Louisiana Territory, which established a boundary between slave and free states. This remained so until it was repealed by the Kansas-Nebraska Act.
