so maiv's witches were not immortal and the line of descent has become muddled, and she was never really fond of the idea of immortals who can do magic
she believed immortality in common humans (so not someone who was forced to become immortal like her) should recide in scientists
so she gathered the seven wisest people she could find and offered them amortality (they can still die, but not from natural causes and they don't age)
she urged each of them to take an apprentice in case they did die
she's also spend a while figuring out how to destroy the artefacts and she's come up with a solution

the council is probably part of the original myth of the holy council
each mastered one specific subjects: history, physics and chemistry, biology, astronomy, maths, arts and crafts, and geology and agriculture
they built a temple around themselves in akkaena, the capital of the sauvakin empire, and they became very reclusive to the point where no one ever really saw them and they achieved god-like status
