1 janv. 100 av. J.-C. - Alexander Mosiac
Description:
Alexander Mosaic, c. 100 B.C.E., Roman copy of a lost Greek painting, House of the Faun, Pompeii, c. 315 B.C.E., Hellenistic Period (Archaeological Museum, Naples)
The Alexander Moasiac was found in the House of Faun which was the nicest mansion in Pompeii. Therefore, it was a piece of art aristocrats would have invested in for their own enjoyment and for the enjoyment of guests. This demonstrates a Roman appreciation for Greek culture. The subject matter, Alexander the Great, is depicted as god-like, showing the respect Romans had for him.
