6 avr. 1941 - German/Axis Invasion of Greece

Description:

On April 6th, the invasion of Greece began. Before attacking Greece, Germany capitulated Yugoslavia, by many different things. The airfields were bombed, so they could not get their planes in the air. Germany also used Yugoslavia's ethnic tensions to their advantage as some groups turned against Yugoslavia. After Yugoslavia finally fell, The axis moved onto Greece. Previously, Italy tried to invade Greece from Albania, but was stopped by Greece. However, this time Italy had Germany to help. German and Bulgarian troops would come from Bulgaria, while Italian soldiers would move in from Albania. On April 6th, 1941, the invasion of Greece began. Piraeus was bombed by the Germans, and many of their divisions moved swiftly through Greece. Although Greek, British, and ANZAC soldiers fought against them outnumbered. However, they eventually fell to the Germans on April 30th, 1941.
The invasion of Greece is important, because it demonstrated the Axis power to the world once again. It also slowed down Operation Barbarossa, which if done earlier, could have capitulated the Soviet Union.
