Description:
A slave named Dred Scott sued for his freedom because he had once lived in a free territory. The case was brought to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court Justice, Roger B. Taney, ruled that because Scott was not a US citizen, he could not sue for his freedom, this was not just a ruling for Scott, it was a ruling for all black people, free or enslaved. It also ruled that congress was not allowed to prohibit slavery anywhere.
