On April 12th, 1861, Confederate forces assaulted and bombarded the Fort Sumter. Fort Sumter was a Union Fort located near Charleston, South Carolina. The Confederate bombardment last two days, until the Union soldiers were forced to surrender. This battle sparked the being of the Civil War.
