Description:

- The Indian Independence Act, of 1947 passed in the British parliament along with Royal approval

- Creation of 2 separate dominions with effect from August 15
- Each dominion to have a governor-general
- Till a new constitution was not adopted, both dominions worked according to the provision of the Government of India Act, of 1935
- Viceory office was abolished, separate GG for each dominion

- Empowered the constituent assembly of the two dominions to frame and adopt any constitution even if the Indian Independence Act, of 1947 itself
- Abolished the office of SOS and transferred powers to the Commonwealth
- Granted freedom to the Indian princely states to either to join the Dominion of Pakistan or India or remain independent
- It discontinued the appointment to civil services and reservation of posts by SOS
