The 18th amendment sought to end the transportation, manufacturing and sale of alcohol. During the time, Progressive reformers believed that alcohol was roof of evil in society and was causing all of the problems through this tormentous time. Many wealthier people bought out tons of liquor inventories, so they could stockpile their liquor for the lengthy time of prohibition.The Volstead Act lead to the 18th amendment, when Woodrow Wilson banned liquor in the United States to save grain for the war. The amendment wasn’t very successful and not many Americans followed it to the full extent, in 1933 the 21st amendment officially repealed the 18th amendment to the United States constitution.
