30 avr. 1803 - Louisiana Purchase

Description:

The United States bought around 820,000 square miles of land in 1803. The Louisiana Purchase was the land that stretched from today’s Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska, parts of Minnesota and Louisiana part west of Mississippi River, including New Orleans along with that was parts of the northern part of New Mexico. The purchase took a very long time because Thomas Jefferson, the current president, wanted to buy New Orleans originally, but that was considered unconstitutional to many congressman. So, he decided to purchase all of the land that the French were occupying considering Napoleon wanted to build a North American empire. This was a monumental accomplishment for Thomas Jefferson and doubled the size of the US.
