9 févr. 1943 - End of the Battle of Guadalcanal

Description:

After the initial defeat, the Japanese retaliated and sunk a large part of the Navy used for the invasion. The ships that were left escaped into the sea, however, the Japanese planned to destroy them, along with the soldiers on the island. Eventually, the Japanese Navy was defeated, and the U.S. controlled Henderson field. However, it took a few more months to clear the island of the remaining Japanese troops on the island.
This battle is significant because it prevented the Japanese from blocking supply routes from the U.S. to Australia or New Zealand. If Japan had blocked them, then the whole Pacific war would have changed. Australia and New Zealand would be isolated, meaning no NZAC soldiers could make it out to fight in the Pacific.
