16 déc. 1944 - Beginning of the Battle of the Bulge

Description:

Allied troops grew nearer and nearer towards Germany. Hitler planned for one last Western offensive. Hitler wanted to cut off Allied supply trucks in Antwerp (Belgium). Early in the morning, German troops began to move rapidly while there was 6 inches of snow from the Ardennes forest. American soldiers were caught by surprise and created an encirclement around a large group of American soldiers. Although the American soldiers weren't completely surrounded, they were in a bulge behind enemy lines.
The Battle of the Bulge is a significant part of WW2, because this battle was the downfall of the German Reich. They had almost no fuel and were being attacked from three different fronts. Hitler wasted resources that could have been used to defend to launch an offensive, that was a total failure.
