Description:

After Union forces took control of the Confederate capital in Richmond on April 3, the leaders of the Union and Confederate armies, Grant and Lee met in a small town called Appomattox Court House where they negotiated the Confederate surrender. As Lincoln had requested, it was somewhat lenient, more so than many thought it should be. They signed the surrender on April 9, 1865 and thus was the end of the Civil War.
