6 mai 1882 - Chinese Exclusion Act
Description:
The Chinese Exclusion Act restricted the immigration of chinese into the U.S. Workers on the West Coast, mainly, blamed the Chinese immigrants for the lower wages and economic ills. This is ridiculous because the Chinese were less than 1% of the population of the nation. The Chinese had entered the United States beginning in the 1840s during the Gold Rush trying to escape poverty in China. While in the United States, the Chinese people experienced great racism and hatred towards them from the Americans. This act significantly changed the relationships between Chinese men and women because the act did not require the men to leave so they remained in the country to continue making money.
