Created in 1957 but only introduced in 1962Partnership aimed to aid farmers throughout the EU by supporting them through new polices
that helped to protect farmers rights through a new form of protectionism
The CAP promotes farming, ensures a reasonable wage, subsidises farming sectors through so called Single Farm Payments (SFP) and they have made advancement to promote climate change and the safeguarding of rural areas to promote sustainability
About a third of the EU budget (160 billion) goes to support for EU farmers and the CAP is financed through two funds as part of the EU budget:
-The European agricultural guarantee fund (EAGF) provides direct support and funds market measures;
-The European agricultural fund for rural development (EAFRD) finances rural development.
