6 janv. 1945 - Native Americans in World War 2

Description:

25,000 Native Americans actively fought in World War 2. This is when a lot of Native Americans interacted with white people outside of the reservation for the first time, fighting as equals besides white men. One of their tribes languages, the Navajo language, was used as military code that Native Americans who knew both Navajo and English would relay and communicate messages through. This made it so other people couldn't decryption their messages, since they were in another language entirely. These people were called code talkers. Before the war, only 5% of Native Americans lived off reservation. After the war, more than 20% lived off reservation.
