Independence Day also known as the Fourth of July is a federal holiday since 1941. This celebration was when the Continental congress voted in favor and approved the declaration of independence, not long after the 13 colonies had adopted the Declaration of Independence (which is a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson) this broke all ties to the British crown, thus USA was born, and the Fourth of July was made in to a holiday now celebrated throughout the US.
