18 juill. 1863 - Battle of Fort Wagner

Description:

At Fort Wagner, the Union launched a number of attacks, and finally land and sea siege operations won them the fort. The biggest contributor to this battle was an all-black regiment, which forced those who thought less of black soldiers to reconsider. Though the ability to fight and die isn't exactly the first kind of rights people usually fight for, it marked a big win for African American rights in general, and probably contributed to the rights that they got in the negotiations after the war. By taking Fort Wagner, the Union took a large Confederate Harbor, which helped cut them off from supplies. Though many could see how well the war was going for the North, many in the South held out hope.
