Rosa Parks, an African American, was arrested that day for violating a city law requiring racial segregation of public buses. On that day that Rosa was arrested, a white man had entered the bus and there were no seats in the white section. James Blake, decided to get rid of one row (which Rosa was sitting on) from the black section. Parks remained seated, arguing that she was not in a seat reserved for whites. James Blake believed he had the discretion to move the line separating black and white passengers
