17 oct. 1777 - Battle of Saratoga
Description:
The Battle of Saratoga was actually two battles, fought eighteen days apart. At this point, the war models the children's story of the tortoise and the hair. Britain, comfortable and overconfident, moved slowly south, giving American troops a chance to regroup. Aided by French help, American troops forced General Burgoyne into surrender. This had many impacts, including convincing the French to continue helping Americans and gaining military control of the Hudson River valley.
