The Battle of Saratoga was actually two battles, fought eighteen days apart. At this point, the war models the children's story of the tortoise and the hair. Britain, comfortable and overconfident, moved slowly south, giving American troops a chance to regroup. Aided by French help, American troops forced General Burgoyne into surrender.
