14 avr. 1865 - Lincoln Assassinated
Description:
Five days after the surrender at Appomattox, President Lincoln was shot in the head. Originally hoping to kidnap the President, John Wilkes Booth and his associates were Confederate supports who stayed in the North. After the kidnapping plot fell through, John Wilkes Booth heard that Lincoln would be attending Ford's Theater on April 14 and hatched a different plan. Using his status as an actor to get in, Booth snuck into the President's private box and shot him, before jumping down to the stage and leaving the theater. The subsequent manhunt for Booth was one of the largest the nation has ever seen, with 10,000 federal troops, detectives and police working to track him down.
