After many defeats, the Italian population had begun to realize that they weren't happy with Mussolini and his leadership of the country and were ready for a change in leadership. Many wished to overthrow Mussolini and side with the allies. Unfortunately, because of the large German presence within and around Italy it made it hard for them to aid us in any way. Referred to as the soft underbelly of Europe it was chosen to penetrate fortress Europe. Sicily being the stepping stone to Italy, if this had gone poorly, we wouldn't have been able to take Italy.Ajouté au bande de temps:
