This compromise addressed the issue of slavery in land acquired during the Mexican-American War.It's main components included:
- Texas being admitted as a slave state
- California being admitted as a free state
- The slave trade becoming illegal in D.C
- Utah & Mexico deciding through popular sovereignty
- A new fugitive slave law
