19 août 1942 - Dieppe Raid

Description:

Known as the bloodiest day in Canadian history, the attempt at a raid on Dieppe in France was a massacre of Canadian solders. It was supposedly supposed to be a test to see how strong the enemy defenses were, however the true reason was to obtain the code machine know as enigma. The terrain was extremely hostile with huge looming cliffs and rocky beaches made it extremely difficult to move along the beach. The rocks got stuck in the treads of the tanks and with no cover the German had clear shots to gun down the Canadians from their spots on the cliffs. With no air and little naval support with the addition of the unusable tanks, the soldiers had no support and if they weren't killed they were capture barley any made it off the beach and those who did were traumatized.
