24 juin 1497 - John Cabot
Reaches Canada
Description:
While Columbus was exploring the Caribbean, another Italian explorer, by the name of John Cabot, theorised that he could also make his way to Asia by travelling across the Atlantic Ocean. He was commissioned by the King of England, Henry VII, to undertake this mission and thus John Cabot left the city of Bristol in the May of 1497. He sailed for only about a month before making landfall on the Northeast Coast of Canada where he spent a brief time exploring the coast of modern-day Newfoundland, claiming it for the English crown.
