Germany launches a large-scale invasion of Russia, but drastically underestimates the difficulty of their betrayal. 600,000 Germans were taken prisoner by the Soviet Union while they fought in unfamiliar territory.

Fighting on home turf gave the Soviets an easy advantage. The frigid conditions of Russia nullified the effectiveness of the German troops, and the attack failed.
