There was an attack on the Lindisfarne monastery off the coast of Northumberland in northeastern England was the start of the Viking age. The Vikings either killed or enslaved monks from the monastery from this attack. Many historians argue that the Viking age most likely started earlier than previously believed, but this is one of the first documented attacks of the Vikings.
