5 mars 1650 - The Atlantic Slave Trade

Description:

The Atlantic Slave Trade was the second of the three stages of the Triangular Trade. The Atlantic slave trade was the global transporting of 10 to 12 million African American slaves across the Atlantic ocean. The Portuguese dominated the slave trade and mostly used slaves to work on their sugar plantations. The slave trade increased and began to become more popular because the demand in harsh labor rose since plantations in America were growing rapidly. This trade destroyed Africa’s west coast, broke up many relationships, and caused much abuse towards their race. Without this huge Atlantic Slave Trade, the population in Africa may have not decreased as dramatically, the civil rights movement may not have been needed, and discrimination against African Americans might not be as strong or even present.
