1 janv. 1100 av. J.-C. - Greece Develops Into Various City-States

Description:

The Mycenaean civilization in Greece declines due to a seemingly mass invasion of other Greek people speaking the Dorian language. It was during these "Greek Dark Ages" that people lived scattered throughout Greece in small farming villages. As they grew larger, these villages began to evolve with the construction of walls, marketplaces, and a community meeting place. They each developed governments, and organized their citizens according to some sort of constitution or set of laws. They raised armies, collected taxes, and every one of these city-states - including Athens, Sparta, and Thebes - was said to be protected by a particular god or goddess, to whom the citizens owed a great deal of reverence, respect, and sacrifice. This soon began what historians refer to as "Ancient Greece."
