Description:

Tensions began to arise when Cuba began resisting Spanish rule and calling for their independence. Imperialists in the US, such as Teddy Roosevelt, wanted to go to war with Spain. Yellow journalism exaggated the conditions of Cubans, although there was humanitarian crises. When the US sent the USS Maine to Cuba, and it mysteriously exploeded in Havana harbor, warhawks and journalsts were quick to accuse the Soanish of olanting a bomb. To protect American interests in Cuba, the US declared war on Spain. The fighting lasted about 3 months and was an easy win for the US. The US gained the new territories of Guam, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the Phillepines.
