Description:

The Homestead Act was a way to encourage settlers to move westard with the promises of 160 acres of land to anyone that was the head of the household, 21 or older, and an American Citizen, or at least an immigrant who applied for citizenship. If the requirements were met, all one had to do recieve the 160 acres of land is to commit to improving the property by building a home or a struture, live on the land for at least six months of the year, and pay a $10 regristration fee.
