25 nov 1835 - Andrew Carnegie

Description:

Carnegie was known as one of the nation's capitalist tycoons. His immense holdings were consolidated into the Carnegie Steel Company in 1889. He is remembered for his methods of vertical integration, where he combined all stages of production into one massive company. He is also famous for his philanthropy ideas, exemplified by his speech, The Gospel Of Wealth. This speech explained how the social classes were determined by the survival of the fittest, and that rich men should not die rich, but instead donate their money to charities. Carnegie donated an immense portion of his wealth to libraries.
